Good to know

About Portage County's records

Everything comes from the Auditor's weekly CAMA download: owner, mailing address ("tax bill to" is often the mortgage company), market and assessed (35%) values, this year's tax, what is still owed and unpaid tax from earlier years, plus the county's homestead, owner-occupancy, foreclosure and Board of Revision flags. The county publishes only each parcel's newest sale, so the transfer history is short (it grows every week) and deed types are county number codes. Kent only: unpaid code fines and utility bills the city certified to the tax bill.

Ohio rules

How unpaid tax and foreclosure work in Ohio

Unpaid tax is certified delinquent after about a year; the county treasurer then forecloses through the court or the Board of Revision, and sheriff sales are held online. Some counties also sell tax lien certificates. The owner can pay the full amount until the court confirms the sheriff sale.

Mortgage foreclosures: judicial. Mortgage foreclosures go through the court of common pleas and end with an online sheriff sale.
